- Due to the possibility of an emergency, always have an evacuation plan prepared for your animals. After your own pets have been removed to safety, please check for other animals in need of help.
- Pet Allies neither endorses nor promotes these organizations and presents them to assist the public in helping themselves. New rescues are continually being formed while others may change their phone numbers and/or websites. Don't be discouraged if a given group takes some effort to reach.
- The fastest way to contact most organizations is through their websites. If you are trying to place or adopt a pure breed animal, be sure to check the state and national registry for its type (i.e American Kennel Club) as well as publications such as "Cat Fancy". Also, enter the breed's name into any internet search engine. Many groups have links to similar organizations on their websites and you will find additional information there.
- f you must find a new home for a pet, be aware that almost every organization will euthanize (kill) an animal under various conditions. Some kill routinely while others only do so under extreme circumstances (these are known as "No Kill"). Be sure to ask the policy prior to relinquishing a pet to any organization or animal control office.
